"It's a space where the diner's regulars not only feel welcome but that they are returning to an elevated experience."
The beachfront hotel reimagines what a Nantucket destination can be.
Built in 1960 on the island's North Beach Street, The Beachside Hotel celebrates a golden artistic period in Nantucket's history; In the 60s and 70s, when artists and craftsmen visited it as their creative refuge. PLD wanted to pay tribute to this artistic spirit, while creating the common goal of a family retreat.
The practice transformed the buildings’ interiors, leaning into a breezy modernist vibe through a palette of warm and rich timbers, terracotta, browns and creams, and green accents.
American Design Hot List, an unapologetically subjective editorial award for the names to know now in American design. The list acts as Sight Unseen’s guide to those influencing the design landscape in any given year — whether through standout launches, must-see exhibitions, or just our innate sense that they’re ones to watch.
When tasked with the complete retrofit of the 1960-built Beachside Hotel, multidisciplinary New York practice Parts and Labor Design (PLD) chose to honor that history by introducing a sophisticated and cohesive scheme, all while ensuring it would still draw in a wide range of guests.
Our snapshot of the people who are shaping the United States’ creative landscape in 2024 spans design business leaders, community builders, tastemakers, gastro greats and the new guard, taking in celebrity shapeshifters and those defining the aesthetics of popular culture along the way.
If art imitates life, then the works that inhabit our most intimate spaces have a high bar to meet. Out with the boring all-white uber-modernist high-rises of today, and in with a curated living experience that pulls the best of its surroundings indoors.
Set in the corner of the landmark Townsend building, one of the Flatiron District’s architectural jewels since its construction between 1896 and 1897, Lupetto—whose name means “little wolf” in Italian—feels as chic and contemporary as it does relaxed and timeless.
Sotto, a new amaro bar located just below Nomad’s Lupetto, is a must-visit.
Dark, low ceilings and custom lighting set the mood at the new amaro lounge.
